Main Tournament 

  • Colorado Scholastic State Championship (February 15-16, 2020):  Five sections: K-1, K-3, K-5, K-8, and K-12

          K-1 participants will only play on Saturday, February 15.                                  Players in other sections will play on both Saturday and Sunday.

New Events (optional)

  • Colorado Scholastic Blitz Championship (February 14, 2020):        Two sections: K-5 and 6-12.


  • Parents Championship (February 14, 2020)

          Open to up to 32 parents of tournament participants. All four rounds of this event will take place on Saturday, February 15.

Entry Fee$45 Entry fee includes $3 one-time Colorado State Chess Association tournament fee. All registrations must be received no later than Saturday, February 8.
Current CSCA members may subtract $3 from their entry fee amount above. We will use the most current posted Colorado State Chess Association Memberships on: If your name is not on the list you must send proof of membership in with your registration form to claim the $3 CSCA member deduction.)
Prizes Main Tournament: Trophies to the top ten players and top 3 teams in each section.
K-1 Division: Trophies to the top ten players and participation medals for all others.
Blitz Tournament: Trophies to the top five players in each division; medals for 6th - 10th place

    Chess Queen trophy to the top girl in each section.

    Top 9-12 player of the K-12 section qualifies for the 2020 GM Denker Tournament of High School Champions

    Top girl in the K-12 section qualifies for the 2020 WIM Ruth Haring National Girls Tournament of Champions

    Top 6-8 player in the K-8 section qualifies for the 2020 Barber Tournament of K-8 Champions

    Winner of the K-5 section qualifies for the John D. Rockefeller III National Tournament of Elementary School State Champions

<b>All entries must be received by Saturday, February 8.</b>  No entries will be allowed at the door.     

This year's K-1 State Championship will be held on Saturday, February 15. This is a five round Swiss system tournament. All rated and unrated K-1 players are invited. Your K-1 child does not need to be a United States Chess Federation member to play in this division. Players will play all 5 rounds. The top 5 players will receive 1st through 5th place trophies. All other players will receive participation trophies.

For the main tournament in all other sections (K-3, K-5, K-8 and K-12), all participants must have a current United States Chess Federation membership (USCF). Please make sure your child's USCF membership is current through February 2020, since this is when the tournament takes place.  Go to to acquire or renew your child's USCF membership. 

Each parent/guardian is responsible for their dependent’s safety and behavior.  As a condition of entry, you agree that Colorado State Chess Association, its organizers and managers, are not responsible for you or your dependent’s safety or the actions of other attendees.  By entering, you waive any and all claims against Colorado State Chess Association, its organizers and managers, for damages or injury of any kind arising out of this tournament.  You agree to pay any property damages to the tournament site caused by yourself or your dependents.  You further agree to hold Colorado State Chess Association, its organizers and managers harmless, and indemnify them generally and specifically, from all such liability.
